328 lbs. of used shoes = $164 = 164 Horse Shoes
Thanks to the Hunterdon Preparatory School and Girl Scout Troop #22914 from Short Hills who each ran successful shoe drives which brought in a total of 328 lbs. during the month of June. Did you know that Mane Stream receives $.50 a pound for those shoes and that the proceeds will go toward the purchase 164 horse shoes?
After the donated shoes were dropped off at Mane Stream they were sorted and packed tightly into 8 boxes thanks to Eileen Fertig, a Mane Stream participant’s mother. For the past year and a half while her son received physical therapy treatments, Eileen has kindly been packing up all the donated shoes. Now all the boxes have been picked up by FedEx and will soon be traveling all over the world to people in need.
This is a great program for those who would like to volunteer with Mane Stream but who are not yet 14yrs. old OR those who may not have the time to commit to a weekly volunteering spot. Anyone can easily implement this program in a local library, school, YMCA, or other community building by posting a “Shoes for Shoes” sign and creating a drop off bin.
Contact Louisa Bartok at firstname.lastname@example.org if you’d like to start a drop off spot and help raise more funds to offset our Ferrier bills.
