Mane Stream Open House a Hit for All

On Sunday, April 17, the local community and families who were interested in learning more about Mane Stream’s Summer Day Camp and other equine-assisted programs came to the Oldwick facility for a fun-packed day. Those who arrived at 10 am enjoyed the “Parade of Horses”; other activities during the day included “Paint a Pony,” “Make Your Own Horse Treats,” “Meet Sasha the Mini,” and a scavenger hunt.

During two Adaptive Riding demonstrations, four Mane Stream participants showed off the skills they have learned during their weekly lessons. In separate demonstrations, the Mane Stream Occupational Therapist and the Speech-Language Pathologist showed how using the horse's movement can directly relate to everyday life. Additional opportunities were set aside for speaking with the trained therapists (Occupational, Physical, and Speech-Language) and with instructors registered with the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) International, the camp director, volunteers, and participants.

A big hit was the “Baking for Beyra” table, which brought in $158! Thank you to those who donated delicious baked goods and to those who brought hearty appetites. Another $175 was raised by generous donations and by participants in the “Paint a Pony” activity.

Additional thanks go out to all the volunteers and Board Members
who made the Spring Open House a fun-filled day for all!
